OK guys here we go.
Let me start by saying i work in the silicon chip business on the demand generation side of things. Im very used to end users, like me, being very enthusiastic about something they have just bought simply because they have just bought it. I dont want to set that impression here, but its going to be hard. Why ? Because this is one of the best products I have ever bought and its hard not to scream out loud just how good this beast is. From a first impression point of view that is. Please bear in mind Ive never owned or used a conical before and returned a Chronical because my unit had a poor finish.
So first impressions:
It is engineered to death. It is an utter BATTLESHIP. It weighs an absolute ton. It looks beautiful. To compare it to the Chronical would be unfair, like comparing a Chronical to a plastic bucket. They are two entirely different products. The Morebeer conical is without doubt an industrial grade piece of high tech production equipment that would not look out of place in a commercial set up. Every aspect of this unit oozes quality, i need to measure the steel thick ness but i estimate its getting on for 2mm, its utterly solid. It will last several lifetimes and thats why the re-sale values are so high. The open market never lies and man is thing desirable.
Here are the pics and comments. Please bear with me and I wouldnt mind your feedback regarding the welds as I dont have much experience. Please also bear in mind I used my camera phone as my daughter has the DSLR (doubt I'll see that again)
Box a bit crumpled but dont worry to damage this thing youd need a sledge hammer
Stand is very well made. I wouldnt want to put too long leg extensions on as it may get a bit top heavy when full of delicious beer.
OMG my back my back...the bloody lid weighs 3.5 Kg on its own, lid feels like its made from even thicker SS. Silicon gasket around the edge. Cone sits on the stand, best make sure its level before adding wort as i bet it could slip.
Now to unpack the valves etc, Here is the utterly gorgeous SS butterfly dump valve. Quality is not the word i just wish i had my better camera. This beast weighs 1.5Kg on its own and has the most wonderful actuation. The valve inside is incredibly engineered and looks like its come straight out of an operating theater. The picture just does not do this marvel justice.
Here it is in place at the bottom of the cone. The MTBF (mean time before failure) of this approx 28.7 million years.
Sample valve and racking arm mounted. It takes seconds to do it and they are also of the highest quality. No thread will ever touch your beer on one of these babies.
'I AM A DALEK, I WANT TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD BY ROTTING PEOPLE'S LIVERS'
Lets have a look in the cone....beautiful not a scratch or mark in sight. The cone is wonderfully turned and finished.
Here are the welds. Im no expert here and i know lots of argument for grinded v ungrinded. Morebeer have gone for ungrinded but very smooth. They look great to me but as always lets have a discussion cos there is nothing we like to do more than analyse our kit.
Let start with the lid....that 3 inch TC is massive you could fall in and drown in wort (might put a life jacket in my brewery just in case).....
....this is the underside and the small weld is for the PRV, note the camera shot makes it look like its stood quite proud. Its not its very smooth and shallow and neat. The camera does a bad job on this one.
This is the bottom of the cone looking at the 1.5 inch TC weld, looks like a nice one to me, again very smooth no roughness at all.
Here is the racking side port. The camera again makes it look a bit proud. You can feel it but its very shallow and smooth. Thoughts ?
So there we have it. They ship it with a bit of PBW to clean it with (small packet...yes £30 quids worth lol...'ere guv, you dont want to do lines of coke try a line of this PBW, its a bit pricier but it cleans your nose as well).
What can i say, first impressions and all that but I have to say.....Im in love.
