Corney Keg Posts
Corney Keg Posts
Hi
Two of my Corney kegs have been losing pressure recently and after much spraying with leak detector and intent listening i have worked out the gas inlet posts are responsible.
The posts on each keg is different and after a bit of research I have managed to completely bamboozle myself.
My questions are:
(1) What type of posts do I need to replace them (pictures attached)
(2) Are they interchangeable (ie. Can i use a different type of post on the keg or do i have to swap like for like).
Extra Info (corney markings on stainless steel):
Red top : Cornelius logo then then a load of German and made in W Germany.
Black top: Super Champion NSDA-VS-01, Stuff about capacity and pressure, The Cornelius co. USA
Thanks in advance!

Re: Corney Keg Posts
FWIW 'usually' just a seal or the poppet can be replaced. There are three seals on the post:
I wouldn't buy whole new posts if it were #1 or #2. Unfortunately if its #3 matching new poppets with existing posts can be tricky as there are several different and incompatible types around, even within ball-locks. As IPA says there are universal poppets about which some people seem to get on with (although personally I haven't found them as good as the originals).
WRT new posts, I've had three different ball-lock styles of post and they've all fitted on any of my ball-lock cornies so they seem pretty interchangeable, although I've not had any like your black topped corny's post so I'm not so sure in that case. From the photo the red topped corny's post 'looks' like a common type, I think they're the Cornelius branded ones although I've had good luck with Becker style poppets in them too.
Cheers

- 1. The external O-ring that seals to the disconnect
2. The internal O-ring that seals the post (and the dip tube) to the corny's threaded nipple
3. The poppet seal that seals the inner poppet to the main body of the post

Have a look it this link, it may help you decide what's needed to fix your leak
http://www.dresselbrew.com/Keg_Info.htm
If you need orings, I maybe able to help, as I have a few orings sitting around. You need to let me know the type you have. Your pics are great, but it does not help me, as there are lots of cornies that look the same from the ouside
Edit: the way I found my leak, I 3/4 filled the keg, pressured it high 80ps1 then inverted the keg on some tissue, then looked to see where the tissue was damp wet etc. then looked closer in that area.
Edit 2. Here's the info,

I think it's E (dip tube orings) I have these, if it's poppets I have some but as you can see there are different types, I have the type that fit the A type or may fit the C type. But would need to check.
Edit: I have the post orings as well.

Re: Corney Keg Posts
FWIW The majority of the 24 cornies I owned over the years, bought from Norm back in the days, had what look like type 'A' posts with type 'B' poppets (using the labels in the pictures above), so I guess either A and B are compatible or something contradicts. There is also a Becker style poppet (not shown above), these were compatible replacements for the type B poppet.
(There was also an AEB type post on several of mine, which isn't shown but I don't think they match the OP's).
Though take care when shopping, some sellers don't necessarily follow this same convention for post/poppet style vs letters.

Cheers for the comprehensIve replies folks. Looking again the leaks definitely seem to stem from the poppits. As discussed I am reluctantvp to buy these separately as there are so many different types. I might disnantle a post tomorrow and investigate further.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Re: Corney Keg Posts
for orings check out this aussie brewers forum post for details of buying cheap in bulk(ish) via ebay
http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/i ... opic=67746
the softer silicone lid rings are easier to get a seal with especially with older more 'used' kegs..
