PID on Ebay - Good deal?

Hi,


I am again toying with the idea of a PID as I plan to step up to a HERMS system. Is the below eBay package ok? It seems to have the majority of the bits I need save the case, wires etc. Is this make of PID itself ok?

Also any diagrams for wiring would be appreciated, I am trying to make it as simple as possible so no lights or on/off switches required.

Search on here for some info - search.php?keywords=rex+c100
I don't rate them (poor build quality, no SSR output?) and there is data around that suggests they don't work as expected but some people are happy with them.

I can recommend the Sestos PID or if you feeling flush then the genuine Auber which the Sestos is based on.

I got one of those. Relay -> ssr is easy to do, you just need to open it and remove the relay then add 2 links.
BUT I couldn't get it to switch to PT100 from K type, so it is just sitting there at the mo.

Might still use it to control my hlt.

Thanks Anthony, I think I may play it safe if I go down this route and use the Sestos as that can take a PT100 thermocouple for definite. I need to think of an enclosure, I am dreadful at cutting out holes etc to house things like this in

I'm not the best at cutting the holes either so I drill at the corners and use a coping saw to carefully cut out the rest.
Masking tape on the enclosure can be useful when marking out

One question though if I went down the aluminium route if there is any special attention I need to pay seeing as it is electrics and metal

Make sure it is earthed

Just a case of making sure the earth wire from the socket is connected to the power in cable (via a gland)? Sorry if this sounds a stupid question

You want an earth link from main in to an earth lug onto the metal casing

And then one to any (mains) output cables.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll make sure to have earth on the mains in and have that linked to the socket/out cable. The unit itself will not require an earth connection from as far as I can see.
