Smallest corny (like) kegs...

Post by TempTest » Sat May 02, 2015 2:14 am

Hello,

I am looking for small corny kegs (or equivalents) to package small brew lengths (produced on the stove top). The smallest I've found are 6 Ltr kegs from http://www.kegtopia.co.uk/ - Are you aware of any other suppliers of this sort of size? Anything smaller? Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

labs use even smaller ones BUT they carry an extra premium cost afaik the kegtopia folk do a pretty good deal on the small ones, you can also look at the candirect site
but for 5l kegs there is also the minikeg system, the kegs are not SS but film coated steel so wont have the same lifespan, and they dont hold the same pressure, but when used with a countertop minikeg cooler/tap (ebay for a 2nd use one upto £40 - new circa £200) they are a pretty good solution.

in real corny kegs - indefinatly, it may start to thin out after 8-9 months unless its a higher gravity beer or a heavy stout,

in a mini keg, the rubber bung can start to deteriorate if left in sunlight but again if kept in the dark a good while.. long enough anyway..

I brewed a batch of coopers ginger beer with a tin of light lme and banged most of it in a corny, it was way too sweet for me to drink, a pals Mrs was an infrequent visitor and she would have a half or 2 but most of it ended up as cooking addition when doing a stir fry and was on tap for well over 12 months probably closer to 18, the tap spout needed a frequent clean out but the line feed to the tap wasnt cleaned once during the period, imho if sterile when connected to a clean keg of beer the line upto the tap point is just an extension of the corny, Pubs need frequent line cleans as they will change kegs way more frequently and each keg change opens up a new infection risk..
