Pump reccomendations

Post by dean_wales » Tue May 19, 2015 5:51 pm

Hi guys,

I am looking for recommendations for the best pump to complete my new rig. I have a solar pump and another which I would like to retire to stirring the HLT and sparging etc where lower flow rates are all good.

I am looking for something to use with the kettle for whirlpooling, putting through a cooler and transferring to FV as fast as possible.

It needs to be powerful, 240v, reliable/well made and easy to keep clean.

Obviously cheaper is better but I am willing to spend a bit more to get the right pump.

PS Brew length is 50L and connection would be 1/2BSP onto 15mm fittings and pipework.

Chugger pumps are good and pretty bombproof. Stainless pump head, 240V, can handle 120 degC liquid.

Not cheap though! MrLard has them for £137.

Thanks. Bit more than I wanted to pay but might be doable.

Is he the only supplier?

How do chugger pumps compare to the 17v stainless head TD5 pumps that are widely available? They seem very similar but getting on for half the price.

Also does anyone know what modifications have been made by Mr Lard to his to improve them? Only BrewPi have them in their store now for a really good price.
