Check valves

Post by DeadFall » Thu Nov 12, 2015 11:05 pm

So I overfilled one of my cornies with stout and the gas dip tube is below the surface. I have a y-splitter providing co2 attached to that cornie that is also attached to my light bitter keg (almost gone when I attached the stout). My light bitter is now a lot darker and tastes a bit different.

Would the John Guest check valves work here? It says not for gases.

Hard to see it when star-san foam is in the way and pouring isn't something I want to do. In this case the problem was that I was moving kegs around and had taken the gas off. I also increased the pressure as I felt it was a bit low. I made the mistake of putting the gas on the full one first and not the nearly empty one. The sudden pressure diff caused the cross-fill. In future I'll probably just pressure up and use a party tap to make sure that the gas in is clear.

but its the beer (liquid) you want to stop from backing up the gas line.. any gas that precedes
the beer isnt going to damage the regulator

If you can crash chill the beer before filling the keg to 0c or close to it, not only will the beer accept CO2 more readily from pressure conditioning, fill level indicating condensation on the keg outside can help you not to overfill ;)

Thanks, I'd seen those in the past and that is what I was looking for. But I just kept getting the inline ones. They're pretty much the same cost so I'll pick a few of those up.
