I have this mash tun which came with what seems like the standard drum tap used on fermenters etc. A couple of times now, early on in the mash, the tap has come significantly loose. (I always check them before use) My guess is that the nut is jumping the thread when hot.
Anyone else had this problem? Was it solved by replacing with the same type of tap? Any other solutions? I'm thinking, if I get a new tap, I could use both nuts as there might be enough thread. Or maybe just a better (brass? ) nut to replace the plastic, but maybe it is the thread rather than nut causing the problem? Maybe the tap has been improved in the past few years?
EDIT: P.S. I see there is a newer design drum tap with narrower spout and smoother open/close action but no mention of better threads?

Re: Brupaks mash tum drum tap threads jumping
I used to use that style of tap in fermenters and my mash tun. But I got fed up with them failing and so switched to a lever tap style which seem much more reliable.
This is the type I now use in my fermenters.

Thanks, I did look into it. Great they work for you. Seems there are different manufacturers of very similar style water butt taps, some of which are not food grade. Some only rated up to 70C. I might play it save and try the replacement drum tap, especially as they are "improved" and use the old nut as as well as the new one. See how that goes.Andy wrote:I used to use that style of tap in fermenters and my mash tun. But I got fed up with them failing and so switched to a lever tap style which seem much more reliable.
