make a wine kit stronger

Post by homebrewcrew » Wed Nov 06, 2019 12:15 pm

Hiya folks, new to this so please be patient. I bought a Beaverdale red wine kit and followed instructions exactly. Three months later it tastes great but it's only 12.2 abv.
How do I make the next one stronger, say about 15%.
many thanks

Make up less than the suggested volume! If you make it to 4 litres instead of 4.5 litres you should end up with about 14%.

that should work, but do you find 12% weak? Seems ok for a table wine.

A red wine kit will be balanced to a particular volume. guypettigrew is right that that reducing the volume is by far the best way to increase the ABV.

But it will also concentrate the flavours and you may end up with something that isn't quite as pleasant.

It begs the question why do you think it needs to be slightly stronger?
