Just found this.......

Looks promising :D

If you’ve got the space in a freezer for ice bottles or blocks, and the time to keep an eye on the temperature (a visible temperature readout is helpful) then this is about as cheap as it gets.
Would be somewhere to start 👍

The original fastferment jacket I was looking at was £36 delivered. Not from Brouland I might add but it was a good picture of it

Tom,
That certainly is a very good deal. Do you have a link please? Might have a go myself at that price.

One of the sites yesterday had a table plotting expected temp drops.. That might be a handy guide.

Here we go..

Source : https://www.thehomebrewery.co.uk/brew-c ... er-or-kegs

Temperature Chart: Choose the correct fermentation temperature
This chart gives examples of the number and size of frozen water bottles that is needed for a given temperature reduction in the Brew Cooler for 20L beer.

One 1-liter bottle reduce 1,5°C.
Two 1-liter bottles reduce 3°C.
One 1,5-liter bottle reduce 2°C.
Two 1,5-liter bottles reduce 4°C.
Three 1,5-liter bottles reduce 6°C
Four 1,5-liter bottles reduce 8°C.
One 2-liter bottle reduce 3°C.
Two 2-liter bottles reduce 6°C.
Three 2-liters bottles reduce 9°C.
Four 2-liter bottles reduce 12°C.

These temperature reductions are valid for 20L beer in the fermenter. As can be seen, the temperature reduction is about 1,5°C per liter frozen water. The maximum temperature reduction that can be archieved is about 15°C.

Example: If your home ambient temperature is 21°C and you want to ferment 20L ale at 18°C, add one 2-liter or two 1L) frozen plastic water bottle together with your fermenter in the Brew Cooler. Exchange every 24 hours and repeat at least the first 3-4 days during the primary fermentation. If your brew 10L then about half the volume, 1-1.5L frozen water, is enough.

Thanks Tom.
I have enjoyed this thread.
Really made me realise how many ways this can be done.

Should have said its 23l.

I don't think it will disappoint and less ingredients/whole pack reduces waste & cost.

Still trying to work out my solution... Let me know what you think of the bag. I use wide mouth fermenters.

https://www.lovebrewing.co.uk/25-litre- ... large-cap/

And don't know how well they would fit & if they would leave any room for the ice? 🤔🤔

Off on a bit of wood house chase too...yeast abuse 😁😁

Your fermenter dimensions are (taken from the link you provided).

"Height excluding airlock is 52cms Diameter is 34cms. Airlocks will add about 18ml depending on the types."

So as the dimensions of the fastferment jacket are (taken from the description on the brewuk website).

"diameter 52 cm, height 86 cm"

So your fermenter should fit with ample space for bottles of ice 👍

I think the answer here for a few brews a year is Kviek Voss yeast as another post said.
I have a brew fridge for 18*c ale. But when I found out about Kviek a year ago things have changed.
In Queensland this summer we are at 28* to 32*c so all I need is the fermenter with bath towel a heater belt and my STC1000 temp controller.
It's ready to keg in a week and there are lots of recipes on Brewfather.
I did two Young's Special Bitter one with Kviek and the other with Liquid London Ale yeast and I preferred the Kviek.
