Thanks for the comment,

I hadnt even though about cooking with it, but should definately work, wait until the worts in the boiler then cook the dinner. Might even be allowed a few more brew days if I`m also cooking a meal.

As for the build the 3/8 is as you say covered on the other forum post.

If you are planning to use a burco style element, a word of warning the mounting hole is slightly off centre.

Cheers

Hi Barneey, raising your thread from the grave here. I like the look of your thermopot, but I was just wondering -- most people put the input and output through the side walls or even the base, but yours goes through the lid. This seems a lot easier, but are there any disadvantages to this configuration? Do you get enough of a syphon to drain the coil completely, for instance? I'm making mine out of an old aluminium saucepan, not a quarter as snazzy as yours, and I'd much rather just drill through the lid rather than mess around with glands and so on.

I never got around to actually finishing this project as I went down the RIMMs route in the end. But you right the reason for the lid housing the coil was for ease of build (less chance of leaks) but also for ease of cleaning, it being removable. To clean it I would have just put it on its side and flushed it through.

You built all that and then went with a RIMS?   Did it clash with your curtains or something? Seriously, thanks for reassurance. Through the lid it is!
