soon be dead thank beer for that no pain where im going

Re: Favourite kit
Think you'd be presently surprised how much you get in a festival kit. Really well thought through
Re: Favourite kit
I've tried two of the festival kits- Father Hooks and the Suffolk Strong Ale and would say they're probably my favorite kits so far. I nearly always have some Ditch's Stout on the go though- in fact I just put another one on yesterday.

Re: Favourite kit
I think that 2 can kits are good for beginners because there are no questions on what extra fermentables to add and also no temptation to start chucking everything in the brew from the kitchen cupboard.Nigel1969 wrote:Thanks. I'm gonna try the Festival or Smugglers next.. Think I'll keep away from Coopers, they haven't impressed me at all so far. I guess the Wilkinson's own label is out out the question too then.
I've only tried one Festival kit so far and found that it produces a very tasty brew once fully conditioned. The only negative point for a new brewer (don't mean to sound patronising), is that they are slightly more involved than other brand 2 can kits.
Don't write off Coopers kits, Both Stout kits are very tasty and quick condtioners when brewed with good fermentables. The Pilsener is also a cracking kit when brewed cold. Admittedly some Coopers kits can lack hop flavour, but that's why they are great bases for adaptations

As others have mentioned, Brewferm Belgian kits are nearly all crackers after a few months of conditioning. My personal favourites are the Triple, Grand Cru and Old Bruin.

Re: Favourite kit
(too)Many years ago, I brewed a Munton's Geordie Bitter kit and really enjoyed it. Back then, I would have replaced any sugar called for with Munton's Light or Extra Light DME, and I used some variety of Wyeast liquid culture, but my recollection of that kit was that it was darn good.
Re: Favourite kit
For my favourite kit,
i'm really torn between Coopers stout and Woodfordes wherry,
The stout is bloody gorgeous plus it's so easy to adjust and tinker with, i've added mollasses cane sugar or dark treacle in the past with very good results, but i'm considering attempting a chocolate version at the moment, but still wondering about what to add and how much - chocolate essence, chocolate malt, cocoa powder, grated chocolate....
looked through quite a few recipes online and i've not really been convinced by any ! i'd love to get something that even just gets close to my favourite commercial brew - Youngs double chocolate stout
but, i think i'm looking for the impossible, but theres no harm in trying !
The wherry, is just rediculously easy .... and if bottled for long enough, just tastes superb, can't fault it.
I've not tried any Festival kits as yet, i've got far too many kits here to get through before i buy any, but after reading some of the reviews here, i can't wait to give them a go.

Re: Favourite kit
I've heard they use chocolate essence in their double choc. Apparently its put in at the very end of the boil. My Wherrys been on over a week now, still fermenting. It's at 1013 at the moment.

I'm eager to try the Double Choc but can't seem to find it anywhere, I saw it in Tesco's once but it's a long trip just for a stout

I haven't tried it, but it might be worth a try.
