And just connect a acrylic tubing to the other end and to the Hot Liquor tank?

Yes that's correct, just need it higher to save using a pump.

I made the copper grain filter in a way that I could take the end off easily to clean any husks out.

I use the exact same coolbox, and it loses just over a degree over a 90min mash, but i do put a piece of Kingspan on top of it and cover it with a blanket this time of year.

I went for this format of manifold in the end, after plenty of pointers on here :)

I get between 80-83% mash efficiency.

Cheers

Ordered and on the way, just need to sort a tap out now and experiment a bit with filters. The help on here is amazing by the way.

MB I can see how the manifold is made but do yo have a refererence linky to the tank connector. Can never work out how that's done with a conpression fitting. There's always a pipe lip inside them

Took me a while to work it out, but I used a 1/2" bsp brass nipple like this -

You can cut it to length to suit your MT, boiler or HLT. Plenty of PTFE tape on the thread, and then I used flanged back nuts on either side with homemade food safe silicon seals.

Hopes this helps you both.

Cully - when I brewed in my ice cold shed last night, I actually lost 2C over 90 mins :|

Just reinforces that I have got the right one, MB. Taking my time sorting it out a bit at a time. A couple of Copper kettle 60 ltr boilers next. Can you tell me - if i get them with holes in for the elements, will they be standard size? I want to see if I can get elements cheaper than the ones that they sell. Oh and would it be the 22m hole I'd need for a tap?

drill or file out the pipe stop, that lets you push copper tube all the way through the fitting for attaching onto both ends ;) use the tank connector compression nut to lock and seal the copper tube in place, and add a compression valve to one end and your internal filter/manifold to the other side, If handy with a gas gun you could also use lead free solder to fix/seal the copper tube in the tank connector, and not poke it all the way through the compression fixing allowing you to use a female 1/2" bsp fixing for filter/manifold or valve onto the tank connector directly.

+1 for 20mm and 38.5mm holes, you can always wittle a little extra size from a hole with a file, making it smaller is impossible..
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

Soldering sounds much less aggro than filing!!

22mm hole for tap. 40 mm hole for element. I have 2 of the 60 litre boilers cannot fault them for plastic . I use 2 X 2.4 kW elements in each boiler.Great free hole cutting service remarkable value.I have used higher power elements but none without either cutting out or overheating.
