Digital Thermometer
Re: Digital Thermometer
With the Hanna ones, is it worth spending extra to get one with a detachable probe, or it's good enough not to need to be replaced?

Re: Digital Thermometer
I've used this one for about 4-5 brews now, and I'm cautious with it, and so far so good.
for a tenner, its been ok, but longer term would look to somthing more sturdy

Snap - did just the sameBobba wrote: I cooked that one on its second use. Left the probe in water for about half an hour and it got inside and knackered it. Tried drying it out in the oven and I melted the plastic. You might want to reinforce it with some glue or something to better seal the probe?

Heheheh it's easily done!!! Thinking it's just not worth it with the cheap thermometers. Sooner or later it's go funny and if you're unlucky it'll do it mid brew and really mess you up.garwatts wrote:Snap - did just the sameBobba wrote: I cooked that one on its second use. The £10 one with the min max is very handy though, the battery life is huge so I just left it running in the shed to get an idea how good my 'cellar' was!

Re: Digital Thermometer
Weeeeellllll......I've left the Hanna probes totally submerged in a mash for three hours many times - and I've just left one totally submerged in 55C water for the last 24 hours. No issues at all.Bobba wrote:With the Hanna ones, is it worth spending extra to get one with a detachable probe, or it's good enough not to need to be replaced?
Of course, I don't want to guarantee YOUR one! but they are meant to be totally waterproof.....
Personally though, I'd want a detachable probe - just for the ease of use or in case I manage to break one.
