Thoughts on the next brew

Post by coatesg » Wed Aug 27, 2008 10:30 pm

Been having a think about my next brew (maybe later this week if I'm lucky - next week if not) and came up with the following collection... Any further suggestions?

I realised I have nothing darker in crystal than the caramalt, so it'll be something quite fairly light coloured, but hopefully with the flavours from the amber/cara; TW for some head retention.

Maris Otter 3.9kg
Amber Malt 180g
Caramalt 200g
Torrefied Wheat 150g

90min:
Bramling Cross - 6% 22g
Fuggles - 4.5% 25g

15min:
Bramling Cross - 18g

OG~1039 (25L post-boil, 75% efficiency), IBU est. ~29; Use S-04.

amber malt and bramling x are a popular combination, so it should be good.

personally i would add a 2 or 3 times as many hops at 15 minutes and chuck in some more for a 70C steep, but then i like bramling x :D

are you going to FWH?

Thanks for that - was unsure a little of the hop additions at 15min - don't want to swamp it with hops, but equally want to bring the flavours through. Maybe will up it a little.

FWH - maybe a good idea to help get all the subtle flavours I can from the bittering hops. :)

Cheers,
