Budget barrel problem
Budget barrel problem
Hello again everyone,I hope someone out there can help me.I have a Norfolk Nog in one of my barrels which for the first 3 weeks was conditioning lovely but all of a sudden the barrel lost pressure.I presumed it was a faulty valve so I tried fitting a new cap and re-gassing but the barrel still couldn't hold any pressure.I have tried 3 different caps now (all with vaseline) but gas is still seeping out of the cap seal.Looks to me like a problem with the lip where the washer sits but it looks fine to me.Its a great tasteing brew and I would hate to lose it. Any ideas anyone ?.Thanks in advance.
Re: Budget barrel problem
I'm surprised it lasted 3 weeks before losing pressure, did you move it out into a colder environment in this time? Ans what makes you sure its the cap seal if you've tried 3 new ones? I take it its a bottom tapped keg?
Re: Budget barrel problem
1 week in secondary and 2 weeks conditioning.I've put soapy water round top and can see bubbles where co2 escaping. This is the 3rd cap so it can't be the caps
Re: Budget barrel problem
Then it indicates that the plastic moulding around the rim is to blame, I had a brand new KK that arrived with what I thought a 'ropey' bit of moulding on the rima dn so I filed it down myself, no problem after that, maybe take a look and see if you can easily sort it, if not then take it back for a refund.
Re: Budget barrel problem
I'd love to take it back for a refund but it's about 10 years old.Think I'll see if I can bottle what's left in the barrel and fork out for a new barrel.I thought this homebrew malarkey was cheap ! lol.
