Hi there i have just come to transfer my 1st extract brew into the barrel for conditioning. it has been in the fermenter for a week. I snapped off the lid and what looks like mould and a thin skin has appeared on the top and it has a very strong smell which takes your breath away. Is this batch ruined.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
p.s i made sure i steralised everything i used and left it in the solution untill it was required and rinsed thoughrouly
mould on first extract brew after fermentation
Re: mould on first extract brew after fermentation
It sounds like it has not fermented at all and any brew that was not fermenting would soon turn mouldy. Throw it away

oh it did ferment. it went mad and went from 1042 to 1012 in about 5 days. I have just sent it for a swim in the drain as i couldn't bring myself to go any further with it anyway as it looked and smelt vial.
