Help first AG Brew too Strong??

Post by Jerry » Sun Aug 30, 2009 5:18 pm

Just done my first AG brew, from 'BYOBRA'. Based on Big Lamp Bitter, should have got 23 litres at 1040 but ended up with 20 litres at 1050.

Will flavour balance be affected, is it worth adding 3 litres of cooled boiled water to the fermenting bin?

You have answered your own question really..................Yes you can simply dilute to the OG you want, or drink a stronger brew. I have a small mash tun so almost always have a high gravity and a short brew. I boil and treat extra water for dilution every time :D

If you prefer a stronger brew then I would just leave as is. However, if you would rather get back to the expected gravity then it's fine to add cooled boiled water at the start of fermentation.
