First attemt at extract...

Hi guys, this is my first attempt, and I just wondered if the more proficient of you would like to cast an eye over it, and maybe add any comments and advice that would be benificial to future brews.

Brew was a partial boil in an 11L pot.

Dried Sweet Orange Peel 0 EBC 0 lbs. 1.8 oz 50 grams 2.2%

Method

Bring 4.5L water to 65 – 70 °C
Steep grains for 30 mins.
Remove grains and add 5.5L water and bring to boil.
Add 700g pale DME & 700g medium DME.
Bring to vigorous boil and add 1st wort hop.
30 min into boil add 2nd wort hop.
Dissolve rest of DME in 1L water in another pan.
50 mins into boil add Irish moss, orange peel and remainder of DME.
At end of boil (60 mins) add aroma hops, and steep for 15 mins.
Cool wort to 31°C, add to FV and add water to final volume of 13.6L (approx 5.6L).
Add yeast at 15- 24 °C.



Final Volume: 13.6 Litres
Original Gravity: 1.055
Final Gravity: 1.013
Alcohol Content: 5.5% ABV
Total Liquor: 18.3 Litres
Mash Liquor: 0.8 Litres
Mash Efficiency: 75 %
Bitterness: 47 EBU
Colour: 75 EBC

Og turned out bang on, and its bubbling away with a fine crust of yeast. Yeast used was Nottinham BTW.

Any advice for tweaks or errors greatfully accepted, thanks in advance all.

Apart from the colour there's no difference between pale and medium spraymalt.

Hi, Osb, what would you have suggested? all medium, or all pale? Its just what i had to hand to be honest!!

I don'/t think it really matters. If that's what you had to hand and you're hitting the intended EBCs then it's all good.

Well done on your first extract brew. You'll be hooked now - especially after you've tasted the first pint! :D
