Flavourings in beer

Post by Guzluka » Thu Jan 14, 2010 8:24 pm

This may sound silly fellas but basically kegged a beer around 4 weeks ago. Tasted ok but a slight band aid taste, great head and smooth enough though but cant stand the smell. Added a bit of cordial and has taken the smell away and tastes a lot better. Any ideas of anything to add to a brew post finishing to combat a dodgy brew or smell?

The 2 things which spring to mind (girlfriend doesn't like beer unless it's a fruit style) is lime if its a light coloured brew and blackcurrant (ribena) will fix just about anything. More important though, is to try and solve the problem which caused the off taste/smell !

Theres a history in France of flavouring beer with Orange : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirop_de_Picon
I have a strange lady friend who buys cheap tasteless lagers and flavours them - just a drop or two - with Rocks Orange cordial (Tesco). She swears it doesnt work with ordinary Orange squashes.
I'm not sure if I approve of the practice but it certainly keeps her happy
