Geordie Yorkshire Bitter...no instructions
Hi,
Does anybody have a copy of the instructions for the above as mine appears to have none in the packaging....>? mainly need to know how much sugar to add as i've only done the the 2 can <no sugar needed> kits so far.....i have bought plain ol' cane sugar for this as i'm currently a bit poor will this be ok or will it ruin a good beer......?
Many Thanks
Scott.

Definitely don't go with plain sugar. Geordie Yorkshire Bitter is a lovely session pint but you need either 1kg beer enhancer (Wilkos), 1kg light spraymalt from your local homebrew shop (the hopped is good though the plain unhopped is equally fine) or a 500/500 grams mix of spraymalt and sugar/golden syrup. Go to the local homebrew shop for preference and let us know how you get on. I have a pint of it in front of me now and it's going down a treat.

I have used Beer Kit Enhancer (Available at Wilinsons £4-summat) or spraymalt from Thrifty Shopper (£5-summat)scott40k wrote:so what did you use for yours??
Re: Geordie Yorkshire Bitter...no instructions
ok so i was thinking last night....i'll get the geordie enhancer thingy but should i try like a 50/50 mix with black treckle?
Re: Geordie Yorkshire Bitter...no instructions
Hi,
Kit enhancer is 50% malt and 50% sugar.. extra sugar - treacle will only add more ABV...
Some people do add some treacle for a unqiue flavour (Which you may not like) but I havent done this so cant recommend you try it...
IMHO Its a good brewed with BKE, so stick with that...
Ferment at 18-20C should hit a target Gravity of 1008-1010 in about 5-7 days, then transfer carefully (avoiding adding oxygen) to a cleaned & primed bottle(s) or keg!
Condition in the warm 20ish C for a week then somewhere a bit cooler for 2-3 weeks then enjoy!

treacle has a very strong flavour, a full tin of treacle would be overpowering - I killed a mild doing that. had to tip a full barrel down the drain.
I'd go with the beer kit enhancer, or 50/50 spraymalt and golden syrup.

"so what did you use for yours??"
I normally use 500 grams light hopped spraymalt plus 500 grams Tate & Lyle. There is a measurable difference if you use at least 500 grams spraymalt instead of Tate & Lyle only. Sometimes I use golden syrup, demarara or even a small proportion of honey to make a subtle difference to the brew.

Scott, as you are in Lincoln wilko's have BKE at about £4.99 and Linbrew on the High St stock DME (and lots of other stuff too)
