Quick fermenting time

Post by danskitt » Wed Aug 17, 2011 6:41 pm

Hi all,

I started a woodfords Admirals reserve on Tuesday and within 7 days it was down from 1040 - 1012. This seems a bit quick from the posts I have read but my problem is I am going on holiday for 1.5 weeks and I planned on the brew taking three weeks to get to that FG so I could bottle it when I got back. So should I bottle it before I go which means it will have been in the FV for 9 days or leave it until I get back which will mean it has been in for 23/24 days

If it has reached the final gravity (readings are the same for 3 days in a row) I don't see any reason you should not bottle it before you go away.
If it has been warm, that could explain why it fermented quicker and also be a good reason to bottle it now and not later.

When I did a Brewferm Abdij kit recently, the ferment finished out in 4 days, and that's a 1.070 beer. I'm pretty sure that it's the temperature - the yeasties just get hungry when they're warm.
