Cider kit too much sugar oops

Post by winka » Thu May 09, 2013 5:14 pm

Afternoon all, I was busy today setting away a forest fruits cider kit and a wine at the same time. Unfortunately when I wasn't paying attention I added 4kg of sugar to the cider instead of the wine.
It's only supposed to be 1.5 kg for the cider to get approx 5%
Am I stuck with a overly strong fruits of the forest wine or is there anyway I can fix it?
Cheers

I think you are going to have to put up with a forest fruits wine as long as the yeast can cope.

Cheers mate, stupid question but what if the yeast can't, what will happen, will it just be really not as strong and really sweet?
Cheers :

Yup. Excess 2.5kg in what volume?
Divide 125 by litres and that's roughly how much /extra/ ABV you have.
If the total comes to more than 15 the yeast may start to struggle

Was 23l so I've worked it out at 5.4? so a brew of 10.4 not to bad, I might stick a teaspoon of glycerin in incase the excess sugar makes it to thin
Cheers
