mexican cerveza?

Post by justabout72 » Fri May 31, 2013 10:14 am

hi guys
help needed.
popped a wilko's mexican cerveza in my primary on monday morning.
its now friday and there has been very little activity in the tub.
a few bubbles to start but has now died a death.
took a hydro on monday and today and its very close to final gravity.
is this possible that it has gone through its paces that quick? #-o

What's the ambient temperature been like with you?

Sounds like there has been plenty of activity!

Perfectly likely that it could ferment out in 5 days or so. Leave it another week or so to 'tidy up' though.

Can you see if the krausen has formed, you can usually see it through the fv just above the surface,
what i sometimes do is hold a torch to the side of the fv and point upwards to the lid and if everything is hunky dorey i'll see spots covering the lid, this comes from the bubbling inside the fv and is a good tell tale sign that there has been activity.
some of my fv's i've made a hole in the lid or in the side for a heater cable, co2 probably escapes from there rather than the air lock, so i don't see much / if any airlock activity in those, but it's always ok.

i wouldn't worry, i'd bet my house your beer is ok.

" Boiler Room " ??? F**k! That sounds 'warm'!

J; I've no personal experience of any " Wilko's " kits. But, back in the day, I was shown how anything over the 20 c mark could turbo charge a ferment. I use this method, regular as clockwork, today. Admittedly, I'm a straight down the line Coopers man. Being Australian, these kits are formulated to take the heat

But, yeah. If that stuff's been on the 20? Perfectly acceptable that it will have fermented in the given time scale.

Will it be the best that kit has to offer? Dunno. Most would agree / advise that a steadier ferment, at 18 c would be preferable.

My opinion? Do ye want to grow a full bears, wear a Fare Isle jumper and glasses and drink halves while talking to bore about beer? Or, do ye want a decent pint to enjoy? Cerveza? Suggests ye want a pint!

I'd bang a gallon plastic bottle in the fridge and see how it goes down on a warm evening
