Re: biab lager recipe?
It might be worth posting this in the recipes section or doing a search there. Any all grain recipe can be used with BIAB..
I have never brewed a lager so unfortunately I can't help you.
Good luck!

Lager isn't popular on here, even though it's popular in the pubs. I hate the stuff.beammeup wrote:Cheers Jim I have been looking I like ales too want a nice recipe to try thought lager would be popular .

Oh I love the stuff. just find the temp control hard with no proper brewfridge. Just tend to call all like recipes a golden ale
Just like trying new ideas!
Re: biab lager recipe?
there is a bit of snobbery about lager but if you say you are making a pilsner people seem to view that totally different.crafty john wrote:Lager isn't popular on here, even though it's popular in the pubs. Keep searching and you should find something.
Re: biab lager recipe?
There's loads of great lagers with loads of different flavour profiles, most people who say they dislike lager mean they don't like the Carlings/Tennents/Peronis/Heinekens (and rightly so
) of this world and simply haven't tried good ones. It's just a process after all, no reason you can't make it taste good, just like you can make good ale without it tasting like twig water.
I haven't made a lager yet thought, it is more involved and you need good temp control and a fridge/freezer for a few weeks even after fermentation for many of them. I prefer knocking out a beer in three or four weeks usually
Try and find maybe a schiehallion recipe for a british pub type lager that tastes good, or a Jever clone for a more dry/bitter german one or a schwarzbier for a completely different one

Re: biab lager recipe?
I'm thinking of a BIAB lager next year, and was looking towards a Czech Pilsner like Budvar. I did find a couple of recipes which are mainly based around pilsner malt and Saaz hops, but you will need to 'lager' it in an FV in a fridge at under 3-4 degrees for a couple of months according to the recipes I found. Also water is a big consideration.... I'm in Leicester which has hard water around ph of 7-7.3, which I'm led to believe is not ideal for lager. You can get RO water from an aquarium shop for 10p a litre and start with that.beammeup wrote:Hi everyone , I'm looking for nice lager recipe with some idiot proof instructions...would be my second brew any help is soooo welcome , many thanks .
Don't worry it can be done, just need a few careful considerations to get the best out of it

Re: biab lager recipe?
Here you go beammeup... it's been done here on this very forum but not as BIAB:beammeup wrote:great advice many thanks ..

Recipe looks simple, process with the mash looks tricky specially for BIAB. Maybe just a stepped mash temp going from 60 for a bit then up to 68?
I will get round to trying an authentic Czech or German Pilsner one day myself but probably not until the New Year, so it you go for it before then let us know how you get on

Re: biab lager recipe?
there are a number of lager recipes in the Dave Line book, "Brewing Beers Like Those You Buy"; the San Miguel recipe is based on an existing Edme lager kit, the rest are all grain recipes.
Let me know if you want any recipe in particular & I'll see if it's in

Re: biab lager recipe?
I have a few, yes. What kind of style? English bitter (Theakstons, Black Sheep), dark & English (Old Peculier, Hobgoblin, porter, stout) or pale & American-IPA-ish?
strength of brew is entirely up to you, either you use less water for a given amount of grain, or more grain for a given amount of water; flavour is very subjective
What's your favourite bottled ale? that's usually a good starting point
if you like American "Craft beer" this is a cracker, if I so so myself: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=55333
or if you like Old Peculier, how about this one? viewtopic.php?f=35&t=48378
