4 X 16amp commando sockets - sparky.

Any idea what sort of price I should be paying for a sparky to wire a new circuits for 4 X 16amp commando sockets into integral garage of house ?

Will they need an isolation switch ?

This will depend on your consumer unit does it have spare capacity is it RCD protected?
You can get commando sockets with an isolator they are more expensive but are more practical although not essential you can just unplug to isolate.
It would probably take a half a day.
It's about a £10 for a plug and socket..so £40
Cable say another £40 I'd probably use armoured or SY which is a braided durable cable.
Other bits and pieces mcbs clips etc £20
£100/£150 labour
So £250 ish

That's great, thanks for your help.

Is part of a lot of other work. They are running 4 separate wires run within trunking (2ct i think he said) direct from the consumer unit to the commando sockets. Having an additional consumer unit for extension anyway so that's ok.

I currently use the 2.4 kw style kettle elements but as the sparky are here for house extension anyway decided to go for the full commando sockets with large load cables.

When I got a full rolling boil I just used to use 1 element and alternate every 15 mins as was running of two septate 10M extension leads. Will I need to do the same with the commando sockets or am I ok just it running for 60 mins ?

maybe I should have asked for a "big red button" to kill all commando sockets off in emergency ? a

Not sure if they can put this in now as wire tails will be in by now for first fix.

Something like this but don't wont 4 of them! Can you get them to kill 4 commando sockets at once ?

It would get a whole lot more complicated (and expensive) to wire an emergency stop to the four sockets. Why would you want one? What emergencies are you planning on having?

Just get sockets with Isolators.

You should move to the Cotswolds. Round here you can charge that just for answering the phone....

Your probably right ...I lived in Surrey 2004. .I made more money then wiring the odd extension than I do now with 7 lads working for me up north. ..it's an amazing difference what people are willing to pay...on the +side I've just been out for 5 pints of local ale for a tenner....
