funny looking wort
funny looking wort
Hi
I did my second biab brew Friday/Saturday. I was try the hothead recipe which all was fine I think, I forgot to take my og so not sure how strong it will turn out. I mashed Friday night and then boiled Saturday morning. I have not got a chiller or wort cooler so I left it to cool in the th. It finally got to 22 at about 10.30 last night, but when I opened the fv to check temp it looked funny like lard was floating in the wort not on top when I shook the fv. Does this sound ok????
Well I chucked in the yeast anyway.
Cheers steve

Re: funny looking wort
A picture would be a great help Steve.
By lard do you mean a white floating deposit, or do you mean an oily film ?

Hi
Its not on top of the wort but floating in the wort. A picture won't help now cause I think it does settle to the bottom only noticed when I moved the fv. Its hard explain what it looked like I will remember my camera next time.

Re: funny looking wort
1 would have been more than enough. I use 1/2 a tab in 25 litres. Apparently this is overkill and many use less. The main downside is the clumping that appears like clouds or alien growths. Ultimately it's only an appearance thing but a waste of Protofloc.
I used to get this until I reduced the amount of Protofloc I used. No issues anymore.
