Wooden/Oak Barrels

Post by crookedeyeboy » Thu Jun 19, 2014 3:22 pm

Right I have had it, I cannot for the life of me find any decently priced or readily available wooden barrels/Oak barrels online to start a sour beer project off.

Has anyone got any links or anywhere I could try to get a 30lt ish cask/barrel for a sensible price.

Theakstons didn't have any, they pointed me to White Rose Cooperage but Alastair wants £140 for a brand new pin!

I'd prefer a couple of used ones to be honest, something mayeb from a vineyard or winery. I tried contacting a couple of UK ones but they never got back to me.

Thanks in advance

I bought one of Theakstons casks full of beer for Christmas, which I think maybe cost around £120 or so.

I forget exactly.

But I made sure I was allowed to keep the cask, which they where ok with.

If you love Old Peculier - it tasted absolutely awesome to me, you could really taste vanilla from the wooden cask!

I'm planning on using it for some kind of stout.
