Keeping Elements Off The Bottom of an EcoKeg

Post by k1100t » Tue Oct 06, 2015 2:57 pm

A long story short, I'm building a bigger brewery setup out of EcoKegs, they were free. I tried to fit some immersion elements, but the mechanical flanges were too big. Steve Flack sold me a couple of the BrewBuilder 3KW LWD elements and they fit. However... I'd like to mount the elements as low as possible, but hte EcoKEg wass near the bottom isn't vertical and the elements are just touching the raised bit of the floor.

Is there something I can wedge under the tip of the element to keep it off the base of the EcoKeg...?

Cheers,

P.S. I would have posted a photo, but I'm having trouble with my hosting, you can see the issue on these tweets:

?? are u just using the eco keg outer shells? if so are they made from a foodsafe material?

or are you using the pet beer containers too?? pet wont hold up to boiling temps try pouring a kettle full of off the biol water into a 2l pop bottle (over the sink) to illustrate the problems..

ex mango chutney barrels at 45-50l volume made from hdpe will stand the heat and can sometimes be scrounged for free from indian resturants or can be bought off ebay at £11 each delivered..

the ss lwd elements are not budget items it seems like a bit of a waste fitting em into a boil vessel that may last 1 or 2 boils at best why not blow £30-40 on a nice Stainless steel bergland 50-70l stock pot?? cheaper than an element and will last a lifetime..
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

Just the outside which is bizarrely food grade. I used a few of them last year to ferment all my cider in, they worked well and were free. The ultimate plan is to go fully stainless with induction hobs, this is just a stepping stone. Originally I was planning on using immersion elements, but they're too big for the bumpy exterior of the EcoKeg.
