Corney Keg Lid

I just bought a new corny keg from BrewUK on one of their 'flash' day sales.

I have a couple of second hand, allegedly grade 'A' cornies bought elsewhere.

They've all leaked to some extent. Got the first airtight now, after changing all the seals and a post. But the second one I have just kegged and have found the PRV really dodgy.

I'll also need to change another very dented post (but the supplier sent a third party exchange for this one) plus all the seals as with the last one I should imagine, just to be on the safe side, nullifying buying 'grade A'!.

As my main thought was the lid or PRV was leaking I ordered a generic grey plastic PRV replacement online (that everyone sells), but it wasn't even a close fit.

So, on the arrival of the brand new BrewUK keg through desperation, I used the new corney lid off that one.

It's great, really tight fitting on the old corny, not just the tight, snug fit on the plastic seal, but the metal lid is a really tight fit (almost touching) to the steel surround of the old corny body itself.

The point of this thread? Is there a realiable supplier of authentic AEB corny lids or PRVs as I've just bought from BrewUK? The one supplied by BrewUK had a SS PRV, as seen in the picture below, and something I'd definitely buy for my corny, either the entire lid kit assembly or SS PRV by itself! I've emailed BrewUK to see what they can supply as their lid and PRV option is not the same and out of stock. Hopefully they'll get in the new style they supplied on my brand new AEB keg.

Anyone seen these on offer anywhere else to buy in the U.K. ???

Okay, found out BrewUK sell the same lid although on their website the picture shows an older lid design with a black plastic PRV. I thought £23.14 for an older style corny lid was expensive!

Sorry to hear about your problems. Could you get a second pair of eyes (local home brewer) to have a look at the leaks you've got is case you've missed something easy to fix? Have you tried a magnifying glass to look for stuck debris, cracked seals, warped metal?
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

I have one of the new AEB 9L ones which I too find the lid to be a great tight fit. Even after releasing pressure I sometimes need to gently tap it with a rubber mallet to prise it open. I have a load of older style second hand ones where the lid quality varies greatly so would also be interested in acquiring over time some of the new lids. I did intend to go full on Sankey as I like the idea of storing under pressure for some time without the worry of losing the pressure when not connected up however my Keezer can only accommodate 2 x 20L sankey and 2 x 19 L Cornies at the same time. I can fit another 2 x 9L Cornies in there on the raised shelf though so not all bad.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I've been over the first one pretty well (of the original 2 second hand cornies I bought) and after a lot of trial and error got it air tight. It's okay now and I think changing all the seals helped!

The second, second hand corny has been a slight pain sealing the lid, managed to keep a very close eye on it and have found the PRV to be the temperamental part.

The slightest touch or movement (even tubing touching it) can start a slow leak! It does unfortunately need replacing as looks tired (black plastic PRV that looks beaten up and not grey in colour in some parts). The single PRV I bought online doesn't deal either, so I'm left with changing the whole lid assembly to guarantee a seal!

I guess this is just part of buying second hand, slowly replacing corny parts and getting it to a reliable standard.

On the plus side, I have certainly learnt a lot about stripping a corny and putting one back together again!

Sounds like a great set up, I've just got an undercounter fridge with 2 cornies in. Got the brand new third one so I could get another brew done and conditioning outside the fridge ready to replace and first keg that kicks!

Spoke to BrewUK and apparently the new lids they have are the ones shipped on the new kegs (including SS PRV).

They're going to put them on the site on Monday as showing out of stock currently. Looks like they're still using a wrong photo of them too I as it looks like the picture they have on the site shows a lid with black plastic PRV.

I guess although not cheap, I'll have to get another lid or two!

At least the beer is good! ImageImage
