Flowers Original

Post by smp465 » Sat Oct 25, 2008 9:44 pm

Been wanting to use up some Target hops and have another go at dry hopping. This recipe ticked the boxes - Cheers Marc!

Mashed:
3.8kg Pale
360g Crystal
(Actually i only had 3.6kg Pale left, so 200g wheat malt added)
0.59kg cane sugar added to boil
This was mashed at 66°C for 90 mins and is running off as i type.

Im going with:
18g Target 12%AA, 90mins
35g Styrians 3.3%AA, 15 mins (possibly some at flameout too?

I will probably dry hop with 2g Target 6g Styrians. If anyone has made this recipe (Jubby?) i'd love to hear how this worked out, particularly the dry hopping schedule as i have only ever done this a couple of times and added them to the secondary on both occasions. This time they will be going in the corny about 3 days before i crack it open for a gathering - I want a nice hop aroma.

Anyway, here is the winter setup (i'm normally in the shed if it's warmer) for the run off:

I'll get more pics as i progress.........

Slow run-off on the second batch....starting to look like a late finish! Not got a very vigourous boil going on this time either, didn't clean the element after previous brew so possibly know where to lay the blame for that one! Big clean tomorrow.

Finally finished about 1am. Thank god for the clocks going back. If the beer didn't already have a name, Equinox would surely feature.

Anyway, hit 1044 with 24 litres - so pretty much to plan there. Here she is just after aerating/pitching (went with Nottingham yeast by the way).

Smells good this morning and the head is very clear of trub etc. Was a good clear wort actually.
