F***** Bruheat Boiler

Post by nobby » Sun Feb 10, 2008 1:29 pm

Not impressed with my Brupak boiler. The last brew I did it took well over an hour to bring the wort to the boil. When getting near it was cutting out for about 30 seconds in every minute. so for today I had bought a kettle lead to bypass the thermostat. Guess what it did the same thing. So its the element  Anyone else been having this problem.

So the only answer is to fit and extra element.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Is it a new boiler? Maybe it's worth contacting the mfg to see if it is defective. It was good thinking to bypass the thermostat as a test. I looked long and hard when purchasing my boiler and was surprised to learn many people didn't bother with thermostats. Keeping one element on through the whole boil is common. Many people use 2 elements to get the water to a boil quickly and then just unplug one during the brew session.

In winter, when the water is as cold as it is, it would take my single element boiler upwards of 45-60 minutes to boil.

a thermostat is a waste of time, I bypassed mine and I think most others do as well. your elemnt may be cutting out because its dirty (i.e. coted in sugar or high strength wort) give it good clean and it should be okay. You can bypass the cut out but you run a risk of fire obvioulsy. be carefull how you add your sugar and clean the element before every boil is my advice :D

The original element in my Electrim boiler had exactly the same problem. I replaced it with a standard kettle element and it was fine after that. There is definitely some sort of cut-out in the element itself.

The Bruheat boiler is slightly more powerful but there have been problems with the exposed element cutting out when syrups or high gravity wort is used. I explained how to remove it from certain types of element previously.

Yes it the Bruheat one, my mistake. Its clean, I find a small wheel cleaning brush I got from Halfords just the job. Only boiling a 1046 wort.

cut out removal

I had to make the same decision as you, do I remove the safety cut out or not? In the end I chose to remove said item and all was wall for a while until part way through a boil I smelled something burning and noticed that the boil had stopped. On inspection it was seen that the
connections behind the element had burned out.
Boiling strong worts above say 1060 can be impossible with this type of element. A lot of people are going over to gas. I don`t know how the economics stack up? It would be interesting to find out.
