Up grading my mash tun

Post by oblivious » Sat Apr 12, 2008 3:12 pm

Hi all

Just finish off my new mash tun, it’s a 66liter igloo cool box with SS braiding, as my standard mash tun has a limit of around 23 liters for 1.070 ‘ish beers. I want something that would allowed to bigger beers and do 40 liters (10 gallons) of standard beer if I want to. :D

Here are some picks of it

Thanks, i saved 30-40 euro by buying the coOl box in the uk including shipping compared to by the cool box here! There are savings to be made if you shop around

Does size really matter

I will still be using my normal one of regular strength beers

I will be interested in your thoughts on this Ob as I am contemplating a full system upgrade but I have concerns over the thermal loss from some of these big cool boxes.

Looks tidy though 8) 8)

Ob, what size fittings did you use, I've just purchased one of these and am yearning to converting to a mash tun :)

I haven't had any problems with my other cooler box, this one seems more insulated that the original. I usual throw a towel over the top to help keep in the heat in.

the fitting are 1/2 inch, but the hole in the cooler box is large than that, so you will need to find reducers that can span the hole or maybe some metal washers

Here are few sites i got my info from
