Boiled sweets

Post by timothio » Tue Jun 16, 2009 6:36 am

Greetings & Salutations...

I saw a thread a while back where Chopperswookie mentioned a pear drop brew. We've just had a new sweet shop opened near me, sells all the old fashioned favourites from way back... Its made me wanna brew some roobard & custard wine!! I guess this would be the same sorta thing... Anyone know how easy it is to "melt" boiled sweets? (How did it turn out Choppers?)

Gracias!!

In boiling water - easy - very like dissolving belgian candi sugar for those trappist brews.

Cheers, will have to get down to ye olde sweet shoppe at the weekend and get this one going. Plus I can see what other confectionary delights could be turned into sickeningly alcoholic brews. I'll be like a kid in a sweet shop...

Literally...

Holy cr4p  is there anything we won't try and ferment?

How long is it before someone tries fermenting milk or baked beans or something  ?

:-& what ever next, Kefir?

I've often fermented baked beans on an in vivo basis

Reminds me of when a housemate at Uni bought a deep fat fryer. First it was chips, then onion bhajis, then deep fried bread, then battered mars bars, then battered biscuits [-X not a good idea. Just because one item of confectionary works deep fried in batter doesn't mean the rest will. Digestives don't work and HobNobbs really don't work, the batter comes off and the biscuit goes soggy :-&
