Would it be worth pitching in some more yeast? Did you use an 11.5g sachet when you kicked off the batch PP?

Have you tried a sample from your first smaller batch? I'm going to wait until the weekend, but I can't say I'm relishing the thought, given the taste when I bottled it .....

Shhh! Don't let curious brew know that trees ferment too, there'll be no end to the insanity, the place will be awash with "sycamore surprise" and "Elixir of Elm"

Let's not forget "Turbo Pine" and "Wee* of the Willow"...

Actually I think the second one can be forgotten after all..!

Big Batch Update 2

The gravity of this tonight is 1022..! :D Seems my fears were a little unfounded. I'm now thinking that I should also multiply the fermentation time by five as well as the other ingredients..!

And also... Well, I couldn't resist. It's day 10, and my first batch should be ready, so I cracked open a bottle in the Interests of Science.

Lots of fizz, but no head - it looks like a ginger ale. Only a very dark ginger ale, not at all clear. A strong taste of sweet lemons and a hint of ginger, but not too bitter - well, not to my unsophisticated palate, anyway. I took some pictures, if anyone's interested I'll post them.

But not right now, as I've been supping the Treacle Ale. And, for some reason, I can't feel my legs, and my head feels wrapped in cotton wool. Jeebus, it's got a kick to it..! :o

Post pics (when you're recovered  ) PP. I'm cracking my first bottle at the weekend, giving it 2 weeks in the bottle after its poor tatse when bottling. Out of interest, what type of sugar did you prime with?

:D What % alcohol did batch 1 end up at?

Anyone still making this stuff, I've had a batch on for 9 days now, it started bubbling almost straight away and is still going strong. Is this normal?

Following two successful Turbo cider experiences I had a look in the cupboard and found some treacle AND golden syrup in the back :=P
So I've put on a 5 litre springwater bottle of this stuff on the go..

In the recipe it mentions stirring it every day - can I just pick up the bottle and give it a gentle swirl? - or should I open it up and properly stir with a sanitized spoon?

hey all, i got most of the ingredients for this today. Didn't get the lemons as i was thinking of using citric acid instead does that sound workable.

Looking forward to running this alongside a (wedding) mead in some demi's. My brew itch is getting all scratchable.

Fascinated by this thread; got a question though.

Is treacle ale to beer what TC is to cider (ie: not a fantastic taste but one that'll get you there) or is it something I can present to guests?

Kicked off one of these myself last night. This a.m. there's not much sign of activity but the fermenter cap was 4' away so something's going on. Gave it a gentle swirl and will continue in that vein until this coming Saturday.

okay, tried reviving my treacle ale.... after 36 hours it has burnt out, there is significant sediment, swirling and new yeast had no impact. Its staying where it is until Sunday but wondered if anyone elses burned this fast?
