AG#4 - Jennings Cumberland Ale

Post by Goulders » Sat Mar 03, 2012 1:29 pm

EDIT: See below - became a Jennings Cumberland Ale as no Munich Malt :( But some ordered for 2 weeks :D

After messing around I have come up with a recipe for a Sierra Nevada Porter Clone. Unfortunately the weather isn't great so will try and get this on this afternoon. Heavy rain forecast tomorrow! Recipe as follows:

Hall Porter (SN Porter Clone) (Robust Porter)

Original Gravity (OG): 1.059 (°P): 14.5
Final Gravity (FG): 1.014 (°P): 3.6
Alcohol (ABV): 5.95 %
Colour (SRM): 40.7 (EBC): 80.1
Bitterness (IBU): 32.0 (Tinseth)

59.02% Pale Malt (2 Row) UK
25.31% Munich II
7.84% Chocolate
7.84% Crystal 80

2 g/L Goldings, East Kent (5% Alpha) @ 60 Minutes (Boil)
0.8 g/L Willamette (5.5% Alpha) @ 30 Minutes (Boil)
0.8 g/L Willamette (5.5% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Boil)

57.6 g/L Whirlfloc Tablet @ 10 Minutes (Boil)

Single step Infusion at 68°C for 90 Minutes. Boil for 60 Minutes

Fermented at 19°C with Safale American

Recipe Generated with BrewMate

OG differs with Beersmith by a few points. Should be 1.056 OG so will see how this goes

Cheers Guy. Going to be in the dark I think so no brew day photos if I get round to brewing today. Little boy had a friend round this afternoon who was hard work to say the least!

Will update OG/FG and take some photos when I can. Cheers for your help btw. Decided to match % of the choc and crystal in the end.

Drinking a well earned Fullers Porter now, well deserved!

Disaster! Thought I had ordere Munich Malt from Worcester Hop Shop but obviously didn't! Schoolboy error. Will have to do the Cumberland Ale now instead...

Hi,
Good to hear that you had a back up plan ...
I lose whole days when looking after my 22month old son, he is the reason I don't brew as often as I'd like -but I really don't mind at all...

Well all done and in the cube. Supposed to be 1040 but hit 1043, so over 85% efficiency when original recipe adjusted for 70%. Tried to keep the bag as big as possible so this may have improved efficiency, as may the sugar in this recipe.

All tucked up in the no-chill cube for fermenting in a couple of days. Good colour so should be a good one :D
