First Brew - Coopers Canadian (Honey) Blonde.

Post by sinnerman » Sat Apr 24, 2010 11:39 am

Started my first ever brew last weekend a Coopers Canadian Blonde using the Strawbery blonde recepie from their website but using clear honey.

1 Tin of Coopers Canadian Blonde
1kg of Coopers Brew Enhancer 1
375g of Clear honey

and 23L of brecon spring water.

I used the kit yeast reactivated and added at 26 deg.

the following morning it looked like this so everything going to plan

7 days later after fermenting at arround 20-22 deg, the head has cleared and the SG has been steady at 1.014 since thursday evening down from the OG of 1.047 so im fairly pleased with that. especially since the taster i took from the sample jar was very plesant, So now i'm off to the bottle emporium :)

Well the afternoon of bottling went well, and the glass full I had left over after running out of glass wear tasted quite very nice a subtle taste of honey and not too sweet.

now for a well earned pint :)

So after a couple of weeks out in the shed i thought it was time to give my first brew a sample I think it might have been a bot over carbonated as i got a massive head on it that took a while to settle and the bubbles we extremenly active but it settle ok and i'm quite pleased with the result it's nice smooth drink nicely tasting not overly sweet and quite quaffable.

so here it is in the bottle

and more importantly in the glass

Would proberbly giv this kit another go i think it would turn out even better if i put right a few things i think i got wrong, proberbly pitched the yeast at to high a temperture and it could have probebly done with another day or two in the fermenter, but i'm not put off my first go a brewing so alls good. :)

OK so I'm about to give this a whirl. I've got some Acacia Honey. You reckon this will be OK?

Bottled this yesterday! Used Clear Honey in the end just as Sinnerman did.

Had a cheeky taste when bottling and my god it tasted good and its not even finished yet!

I just had to try it out, this was very inspirational post, so I put one down into fermenter today!
Used 350g of white spring flower honey (this one was in solid form - had to scrape it to get it outta jar) and ended up with OG 1.054

Thanks for the idea, will update how this one turns out!
