Stouts

Post by Mo06 » Mon Mar 26, 2012 5:01 pm

Back in Jan, I brewed a Brewmaker Irish Velvet stout kit.

I used a kilo of Munton's BKE.

When first bottled, it was a little disappointing, but now 9 weeks after brewing, it tastes pretty nice. Sweeter than Guinness, a little like a Murphy's.

My question is, which stout next ?

Cooper's ?

Cooper's Irish ?

Any ideas ?

What did you use along with it (the Coopers Irish)?

BKE?

DME?

Well the delivery man has just been and now I have TWO cans of Cooper's Irish Stout, together with an IPA and some DME and other goodies, so the stout will be on tonight...

Exiciting innit ...?

First off I'm going to start a 'Stouter Stout' as described here:

Only difference will be use of Irish rather than original stout.

Hope for the best..

The 'Stouter Stout' is now in the FV in the kitchen.

The paint stirrer worked very well. Quite a head it produced.

Next is the IPA.

I recently done a Coopers Irish Stout, with 1kg dark DME. It got stuck at 1020 for some reason (first time I've had a Coopers kit stick), some I threw in some yeast vit and a sachet of Safebrew T-58 (if memory serves) and it went down to around 1016. I kegged on Saturday, and couldn't resist a little taster yesterday... looks great and tastes pretty good already. I'm looking forward to trying it again in a few weeks!

Defo seems to be a nice kit.

Well it's been in for 4 days now, and the famous Cooper's 'spew' has be a bit of a non event, a bit of bubbling but nothing special, I fitted a length of PVC tube via a grommet in the lid, led to a lemonade bottle full of water, to be on the safe side.

Oh well, I'll give another few days and see how it goes.

The Irish Stout comes with a different yeast to the OS Stout and is nowhere near as lively as Coopers own ale yeast.

TBH, spew looks pretty cool, but can be a pain in the arse :)

Did a Coopers Stout for Christmas and it was excellent :D

Just did an Edme Stout, based on some good reviews, same additions (1KG DME) but it's definately not as good, although still very nice.

I think you will find that a large majority of users on this forum might suggest reading "Ditch's masterclass" at top of kit brewing forum =P~ =P~
Just like trying new ideas!
