Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - How hoppy is it??
It's not particularly hoppy - it more like a very malty, amber coloured lager.

Cheers for the quick reply, I did wonder if that was the case as its a very malt heavy brew.math wrote:It's not particularly hoppy - it more like a very malty, amber coloured lager.

It's like all Coopers kits - very little in the way of nice hop flavour & aroma. Coopers use the Aussie "Pride of Ringwood" hop which isn't very highly thought of.
It's a half-decent kit if made to recipe though. With an ounce or two of Cascade or EKG in there!

Sounds nice dude! I've not used Galaxy, but I'll get around to it one day.Monkeybrew wrote:I'm planning on a big steep of both Galaxy and NZ CascadePaddy Bubbles wrote:It's like all Coopers kits - very little in the way of nice hop flavour & aroma. Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - How hoppy is it??
I've decided to mix the Sparkling Ale kit up to 23L, and then put 5L into a small FV and brew as intended and then hop the remaining 18L with 3 types of AUS/NZ hops.

Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - How hoppy is it??
When I did this kit it was pretty early in my brewing career and I used an S-04 instead of the kit yeast. I'd never even heard of attenuation so ended with a pretty sweet beer. Dry-hopped the fock out of it with Cascade and NS, so that helped!
The yeast that Coopers supply with this kit is pretty dry, I think?

I brewed it with the kit yeast, it ended a little sweet. Really nice though.

Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - How hoppy is it??
The supplied yeast that comes with the Sparkling Ale is the mixed one ( Coopers ale strain & a commercial lager yeast).Paddy Bubbles wrote:When I did this kit it was pretty early in my brewing career and I used an S-04 instead of the kit yeast. I have 2 spare sachets of this Coopers mixed yeast sitting in my fridge, so I will use the one that comes with the kit in my standard 5L batch and then use my 2 spares in the hopped 18L batch.
The 5L batch will be brewed in my north facing kitchen at a fairly constant ambient temperature of 20C with the yeast pitched dry.
As the Coopers ale strain can be fermented as low as 16C and obviously the commercial lager yeast even lower, I plan to make a starter with my 2 spare sachets and pitch and ferment at 17C in my brewfridge to hopefully produce a very clean brew

Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - How hoppy is it??
This the hopping that I am working on for the 18L of my Sparkling Hop Bomb
Bring approx 6L of the Coopers Sparkling Ale wort to the boil in my 11L stockpot and then add the following........
15g of Galaxy Leaf Hops 15.0% AA @1min
15g of Green Bullet Leaf Hops 14.4% AA @1min
15g of NZ Cascade Pellet Hops 7.50% AA @1min
At flameout leave all hops to steep for 30mins.
Then dry hop with 20g of Galaxy, Green Bullet & NZ Cascade on day 10 for 4-5 days.
Do you think that it will be hoppy enough??
