Official Resonse from Coopers
As a newbie the subject of Homebrewing has brought more questions than answers especially with regards to yeast I got the impression from reading around the forum that the majority of people were certain that most Lager Kits came with an ale yeast. So I simply asked Coopers to to confirm this the response is below.
Also contained in Brewferm's promotional material they say their Kits are supplied with an ale yeast and they recommed using Brewferm Lager yeast for their Lager Kits
Coopers Reponse - RE: Yeast Supplied with the homebrew beer kits
G'day David. The "Original Series" brews (which includes Australian Lager) are all supplied with an ale yeast. All of our brews are supplied with a 7g sachet, including the true lagers, Bavarian Lager and Pilsener. When made up according to the recommended recipes, both of those brews attenuate very well with the amount of yeast supplied.
Cheers, Frank.

No, this will be the first time.Have you made the Brewferm Gold Before ?
It says on the label that it's a premium Pils but the instructions are a bit vague and seem refer to all Brewferm kits stating, 'Stand fermentor in a warm place (25c)'.
Not sure which way to go with this one, either ferment as per instructions @ approx 25c or try to ferment at a lower temp hoping that brewferm have supplied a lager yeast or replace the kit yeast with known lager yeast?

I did a Cooper's Mexican Cerveza kit in late spring and substituted their yeast with Saflager S-23. I cold fermented it at 13-14C and the results were amazing. Loads of flavour, gassy, very clear pint and good colour.
I don't usually drink lager but this was amazing for a cheap kit.

Do a search for my post on it.
Hope this helps

Strange Brew I have the gold but not made it yet. Yes the instructions seem to be for all the beers and the only part applying to the Gold is the Table of water and Sugar.StrangeBrew wrote:No, this will be the first time.Have you made the Brewferm Gold Before ?

This is what the leaflet I have says "The Brewferm Gold Kit is also equipped with an ale yeast. This allows you to ferment the beer at room temperature 20 -25 deg c. If you want a cleaner beer, use a Brewferm Lager yeast instead. You can the ferment at 12 - 15 deg c. You will notice the difference ! "
Ive bought the Brewferm Lager Yeast and will be making my Gold with it, but I want to try the Triple and will use the yeast supplied.
It seems a bit cheeky of Brewferm to recommed Their lager yeast and not supply it with their lager !

I think that's what I will do to. I know my LHBS sells the Brewferm lager yeast (8miles away and I'm lazy) but I already have Saflager so will probably use that.
I remember brewing a Brewmart Mexican lager over 12 years ago and I fermented that at ambient room temp of approx 22c and that turned out perfect, infact people that tried it couldn't believe it was a kit!
I'll have a look for your post on your Mexican.
Thanks...
Andy

I'll have to go read the leaflet again, not sure if it says that on mine.
I think that by supplying ale yeast with the Gold they are making it easier for those who can't brew at the lower temps and giving everyone else the option to change to lager yeast if they want to. Personally I think it wouldn't cost them much to supply both yeasts with the kit would it!
Andy.
Strange brew my LHBS gave me a seprate leaflet after I bought the gold with lots of info about the Brewferm products it did'nt come with the kit itself. I reckon they supply ale yeast so anyone can pick it up take it home and brew straight away otherwise their kits would'nt be so appealing.StrangeBrew wrote:Hi Dave d,Dave d wrote:Strange Brew I have the gold but not made it yet.
