Merry Christmas

Post by troublebrewing » Thu Oct 18, 2007 5:47 pm

After failing to flog my *very* basic brew kit, I have decided to have another go, and here's what I'm up to now.

Can I just get my 'Merry Christmas' in now?

Cheers!

(and if anyone else has any tips on this particular brew... welcome)

I tried it once and it "did a muntons" and didn't ferment out.

(Hence my good luck above 8) )

I've just set this one away a week gone Sunday. OG was 1050, checked it last night and the SG was surprisingly down to 1014

I did however replace the kit yeast with Gervin English Ale yeast

Any idea how long this one needs to mature ?

An easy/rough guide is 1 week for every 10 gravity points so a 10-40 beer gets 4 weeks, a 10-50 gets 5 weeks....and so on

Damned lid has blown off the fermenting bin three timmes now... making us all jump out of out skins... (it's in the living room)...

I have a brew belt on it to maintain warm temperature, but how do I deal with the explosions? Leave the lid partly undone?

It's generally around the 19 mark during the day, but I know it can drop to 16.5-17 overnight.

Thanks Daab,

I just came back in and it's 18.3 in the living room.

Good ida about night time use of the belt- I'll get a timer on it.

Funnily enough, the lid hasn't expanded as much, if at all, as it did on the Three Explosions Situation. I wonder if the yeast is slowing down?

Alas, I was hoping to kill the father-in-law with one last Big Bang behind his comfy chair.
