Oh i have made nettle beer many times, in fact that is what got me started into making beer at all. It is TRULY delicious, nothing to do with Stinger from Badger, totally different if you only use nettles to make your brew. my firends loved it. and guess what the season for Nettles is back, they are perfect at the moment. :D just dont forget wearing gloves  ...unless you use the dead white nettles, but i havent tried making beer with those, only the regular ones.

That's Stinger's actually pretty nice, although in hindsight it my be the fact I'd walked from Lulworth Cove to almost Weymouth before having a pint.

Lulworth Cove to Weymouth? I'd rather ride that than walk it. Although any excuse for beer at the end of it would be a good one if that was the reason. Curious-brew have you tried any DBC beers? I've not yet found one that was not to my taste.

Really interesting subject this. Will it not make a thin drink? And, what exactly is cream of tartar?

Dorset Brewing Company. A micro brewery based in Weymouth that produces some really nice beers.

I got my recipe in wild food books including Hugh FearnleyWhittingtall and Roger Philipp, brilliant books by the way. I also used the one mentioned by Tubby_shaw
http://www.selfsufficientish.com/strongernettlebeer.htm

That nettle beer got me into the swing of brewing. Cream of tartar? it took me a while to find out what it was, and so i didnt use it, but it is one of the self raising agent used in baking. Not sure what it does here!?!!? feed the yeast perhaps?!? anyway, nettle beer i would describe as something between cider and beer, very refreshing, fizzy, and can be quite alcooholic, up to 7% really. The other nice thing is that it is ready in less than 10 days.

i have just started a demijohn yesterday and did add the Cream of Tartar, so we will see if it makes it any better. Some recipe add a hint of ginger to nettle beer. I have tried but most my friends preferred the original version, that is nettle only. Try a gallon, see what you think. But dont expect a drink that is similar to beer. It is just simply different.

well it was very nice indeed! chilled it is very refreshing.
I did try the cream of tartar this time around and didnt see any improvement, if anything i prefered it without it. What is it supposed to do anyway?????

You see Stoneheads nettle beer recipe at the bottom? What is the reason for spreading the yeast over toast and floating it on the surface ? How does this work then ? And for 3 days only?

Thanks
