Hi gents,

Well, the info I found on Badger ales is on the CAMRA site here

So what I've got isn't a ready clone recipe unfortunately :? But enough to have a stab at it IMHO. The following is what I'm considering using as a starting point for a cloning experiment. There may be other adjuncts not listed that more experienced brewers would be able to id from a tasting.

The hop schedule is anyone's guess, but I am shooting for a mid 20's IBU and no DH.

I still have to find out more information on the yeast, but a friend of a friend is a professional brewer, and I am expecting to receive some info from him this coming week. He may of course not know or care, as he doesn't work at Badger!

Hi Matt,

I am interested in this brew but I do not have the confidence yet to try a full mash recipe, how difficult would it be to change this to a extract recipe? If it can be done any chance of a little advise.

Many thanks, Morse

Hi Morse,

I'm afraid I don't know anything about converting recipes to extract. Probably best to ask in the extract forum about how to handle the grain bill (4.5 kg Pale Malt, 300g Medium Crystal).

Be aware that this in only a first stab at a recipe - very early days, and I am yet to find out if it is possible to get hold of a yeast with similarity to the Badger yeast, which contributes a lot IMHO.

Given the above, if I were you I'd have a crack at converting Guild Of Evil's First Gold Quaffer and ferment it with Nottingham yeast. I'm just finishing my last few bottles of this and it's a good brew, and similar to the Badger Ales.

Happy Brewing,
Matt

No need for  Morse :)

This forum is one of the most inclusive and supportive forums on the net.

Hang around enough and I'll bet you'll be moving to the AG dark side at some point soon :)

Hi All, just thought i would let you know - i did a 12L trial of Matts recipe, but used a can of Maris Otter LME and some Galena hops i had hanging around as i could not find Admirals anywhere (at least in HB quantities) and they seemed to be roughly similar. 3 weeks in the bottle and i have to report - RESULT. Taste is v close and I am impressed - recommend you try this clone!

Yes. But sustituted Galena for Admiral and a can of MO not grains.

Hi
did anyone else brew this/ results. Just getting into the homebrewing again. I was talking to mate whos a fursty ferret fan, and he dimmised off hand that i would be able to produce any thing like his favourate tipple, He wants to do a blind taste test. Hes a builder so my Brick barbeque/bar hangs on this (well it being free anyhow)

I've never tasted FF but i'm a fan of Badger beers. Might have to brew this little gem up. It'll be with NZ hops though. Saving my UK stock for my DP recipes. 8)
