Using HLT to sterilise pipes/copper/SS filters

(Sorry this post should be in "Sterilising" - but can't seem to be able to move it there now....)('')
Embarassed

Its been a while since I brewed, I set up a kit at the top of a cellar staircase at the old house - not a great success! - condensation on everything (no air extraction) - lots of moans about beery smells and several failed brews (inadequate cleaning I think)

As usual there was not enough space - difficulty sharing the kitchen for cleaning/filling purposes (3 small childers) and a real difficulty maintaining a systematic regime to brewing and sterilizing.

We now have moved to somewhere bigger and I've got the kit out of mothballs - I am building a nano-brewery in the old outhouse - inspired by the Black Pig brewery! and I'm trying to generate a routine and discipline for future brewing.

My question is this - is it reasonable to use my water boiler (20L Burco) to boil my copper pipes (short lengths) S/S taps, S/S elbow joints (compression) and polythene pipes and sterilize them?

Pasteurisation seems to work at 69deg C for 30mins - will that work for the beer kit? (100deg C might be a bit much for polythene tubing?)

I boil all my cornie bits to sterilise them, IIRC 10 mins above 80C does the trick.

Using wet heat 121C for 15 minutes will sterilse below that you are only looking at sanitised . . . although there is always the use of 'tyndalisation' using dry heat its more like 3 hours at 130C

Personally I never bother to heat sterilise my pipework, just ensure that its flushed clean at the end of brewing, flush out before using and away I go. CF Chiller gets flushed, acid / alkali washed and then flushed again before use.. The pipework from the Chiller to the FV is stored with no rinse sanitiser in it until the next use.

My Plate Chiller and Aeration device gets 15 Minutes in the pressure cooker

Thanks folks, now i can concentrate on the mechanics, I'm off now to start drilling and painting - I will post some photos as I go - this is not going to be as slick as the Black pig brewery - I don't have the building skills or time for that, but it will be a dedicated brewing grotto!
