Morning all. SWMBO has slated off my 2nd lager kit saying it doesnt taste anything like lager. She has got a point as well.

What i want is some ideas on a lager recipe. Im going the HBS so i can get pretty much anything thats recommended.

Ideas welcomed. Please and thanks.

(you can't condition and carbonate a lager in a pressure barrel).
Is that why both lagers ive made now are flat as f***?

I was hoping to get the kegged lager fizzy then stick it into small bottles so it can be swigged from them like branded bottled beers (Bud, 1664, fosters, etc). Could i put it into 2L pet bottles then into small bottles?

I think the only way to get the level of carbonation you want without resorting to cornies is to bottle. If you want it in small bottles then im afraid you'll have to wash, sanitise, prime and cap each individual bottle. You could use 2L bottles which would save on the washing etc but the downside is you'll probably need to pour it in one go (a big jug) and sometimes you don't want a whole 2L of beer.

Transferring from the 2L to the small bottles after carbonation is a non starter it'll very soon be as flat as the proverbials withches breast and you'd probably end up oxidising it to boot.

Ok

Try 3Kg Muntons Extra Light DME

Dissolve in 25L water, then bring to the boil, add

65g Northern Brewer (90 Minutes)
25g Tettnang (45 Minutes)
15g Tettnang (15 minutes)

Cool, and rack to the FV, Pitch two sachets of S23 adn ferment at 12C for 2 weeks, rack into another vessel and lager at 0C for a couple of weeks . . . . .Bottle (This gives 'er indoors plenty of time to drink the Grolsh for the swing top bottles ;) ) leave at 18C for a week then back into the cold

Ok its not my recipe (BCEBAH) but it does make a damn fine Bitburger clone, and was my first successful lager . . . and my first extract beer, I had abandoned attempts to brew an AG lager at the time as the ingredients were appallingly bad quality (I'm not blaming the tools  ) . . . Very impressive

Nice looking recipe Aleman  I'm gonna give this one a go. I've recently knocked up two brews using DME rather than LME and the results are very encouraging, the lack of 'malt extract twang' is very noticeable.
