My own concoction

Well I'm new to this but do like to experiment so using my sort of extract brewing system i knocked up the TT Landlord clone and although its only been in the KK a couple of days and is very cloudy (much more than the kits i made that seemed to clear in a couple of days and were drunk within the week :=P ) it tastes very good.

My only concern is that it will never clear so tonight I put together a few ingredients and come up with this.

In 8 litre urn I steeped in muslin bag for 30 mins 125g Amber malt and 125g Aromatic malt.

Boiled 60g Northdown hops (7.9aa) in 1200g Brupaks pale malt liquid extract made up to 8 litres with water for 90 minutes

20g morthdown added for last 10 minutes.

The remainder of the extract was melted (4100g in total) and the whole lot made up to about 28 litres with campden tablet treated water

Safale 04 yeast sprinkled on top

So what do you clever guys think will happen with this one?

Cheers

just wondering about boiling the hops in so little liquid will they give the bitterness you are looking for?

personally I wouldn't worry and just adjust the next batch accordingly but should be a nice bitter ale. the aromatic malt should add to it.

I think but again don't trust me on this that you could just add the malts to the boil rather than steeping them

anyhow let us know how it turns out.

oh yeah finings are great for clearing beers

keep up the experiments only way to go 8)

Best not to boil your grains. Steep the grains between 60 and 70C for best results, depending on what your after i.e. sweet beer is steeped toward the 70C and for a more dry beer aim for 60C. Most tend to go for about 65C for an hour minimum.
