twin IC - here it is!

Post by Gurgeh » Mon Jul 28, 2008 8:37 pm

so here is my twin IC.

Image

cold water enters in longer end, splits. some goes round the top, causing convection to send cooled wort down through the 13" chasm, where the other half of the cold water carries on the good work. useless, warm water exits from the middle of the IC.

we shall see in about 2 hrs how well it works (2nd batch is draining now...)

EDIT:

btw, this monster IC is going to grace the hoppiest beer I've done so far:

24L @ 1.050
who knows what IBU

50g amarillo FWH
150g amarillo last 10 mins

WLP029

Just for the record - that was too much amarillo. don't care if i never taste that hop again!

well there's 10m there, which compares favourably to the 7.5m of your bog standard shop bought IC...

the cooler is about twice as high when hung from the bends, so with ab it of stirring I reckon it'll do a bloomin' good job.

Will let you know in about 45 minutes!

Looks good, despite a hard day at the allotment, I'll stay up a bit longer to find out how it's worked. 8)

nearly there... I'll do the commentary while we're waiting...

first pic - nothing to do with it, but whilst it looks like a crate of CV Amarillo, it is actually a clone of the stuff by SC. hows that for attention to detail  8)

the rest are self explanatory. I will say that this is 25L with 200g of amarillo hops floating about and that I stirred for 80% of the time...

So, is that 10:20 pm ....99.5c, down to 27c by 10:35 pm?

If that's right, you had better get the patent office on-line 8)

10m from plumb base - with the 2 T's and VAT (miserable bastard) I paid under £25.

remember that when dropping into the fermentor after a little hopbed-forming rest, you're at that 25-26C mark anyway...

I reckon with a less hoppy brew it would be even quicker! can you imagine what a winter brew would be like?

chuffed to bits!

:D
