Demerara Priming?

Post by MRP » Sat Aug 09, 2008 11:17 am

I think my fermentation in the bucket is almost complete and am now thinking about how to prime my keg and bottles(I'm a cheapskate). :P

My brew is Mutons Gold IPA.

Can demerara be used, if so would it taste better?

Is cane sugar better?

Thanks.

A lot of David Line's recipes called for demerara sugar, and also soft dark brown sugar. They do leave some residual flavour (which is not unpleasant as I recall), but should be fine for priming, if that's what you have lying around.

Thanks Jim, will use the demerara as I love the taste of the stuff.

I don't think the demerara will add much in priming quantities, but it will do the job perfectly, as Jim says.

I always use demerara to prime, i do add a tiny touch more than refined sugar though.

How much demerara do you normally use, I don't want any live hand grenades. :wall

i use 2 1/2 OZ for 40 pints in a corny , not sure if youre using bottles but I woud have thought a teaspoon in each would be okay but better confirm with someone who knows for sure.
