interesting visit the H.B.S
just visited flagon and cask in nottingham to purchase a new kit to get on the go, and to my pleasure they are now stocking milestone kits, so i picked up the IPA,
now this is where it gets interesting, i asked the chap in flagon and cask if these were the new muntons produced milestone kits and his reply was "they have always been muntons", i said no muntons have only just picked them up but he insisted that muntons have always made them.
so i just got home and had a good look at the packaging for my milestone kit, exactly the same box as it has always been, stating the vina address & also saying in the ingredients (gervain ale yeast, nottingham strain).
how dissapointed i was when i opened the box to find different instructions, no longer refering to this forum, and even more dissapointing the yeast is a pack of 6g muntons premium, and not gervain nottingham.
surely trading standards could have a field day with this
good job i picked up a sachet of safale04
cheers
a very unhappy kit brewer

Sounds like he was wrong then. I got a milestone black pearl the other week, haven't checked what yeast came with it yet though. It was reduced to about £15 so hopefully it was old stock.
Let us know what the IPA is like. I did one last summer and it was great, hope its still a good un cos I want to do it again.

All very confusing this. It's been a bit of a crusade of mine over the last 2 months to work out who exactly makes what. Conclusion seems to be that as Muntons have the only malt extract canning plant in this country everything is now theirs. But what was happening behind the scenes during the 18 months before International Diamalt went under? And what about Muntons? Have they now got the recipes for some of the iconic kits like John Bull? And before I'm derided and sneered at, yes I'm aware that there's very little difference between the basic kit extracts. It's just, well, principal. We've been lucky in this country over the last 30 years to have had such a huge choice of kits. What does the future hold? A few different Muntons varieties, all the same but with different labels? Probably. It would be a damn site cheaper for them. Suppose my only option, if I want real choice, is to go AG.
You know deep down that's what you really, really wantBlackBag wrote:All very confusing this. It's been a bit of a crusade of mine over the last 2 months to work out who exactly makes what. If ye reckon ye up to it? I know I'm not, yet. But I most certainly share ye gut felt loathing (apparent) for Cuntons.
I've just drowned myself in Coopers, Aussie imported stuff. I Know where my next batch of euro's is going!
Incidentally; Have ye noticed the Google Ad for the 'Malt Products', at the top of the page? I must click that some time. See if it starts with a " C " and ends with a stuck fermentation of '20!
