Boiling Temp

Hello,

when boiling brews for hop addition etc, what temperature do you boil at?

90, 99?

Many thanks.

Err, until it boils.

Sugar solutions boil slightly higher than 100C, I believe. You don't need to measure it, though, just get a vigorous boil going and you'll be fine. Some people measure the evaporation rate to check if they've got it right.

last time I checked my boil was 101C, like Jim says, a good vigourous rolling boil is the key.

The boil I had with the so kindly sold to me boilers from aleman was 101C the thermostat clicked on and off as the boil continued for the 90 min, I shall try the second boiler to see how that does for my next brew.

Ok,

seems like a funny question I know. I (with a friend) am in the middle of building a controller to monitor and adjust the temp of any boiler/ element.

Hence the questions, however it looks like there is going to be the option to set your own temp.

Thanks.

An option would be good. I'm sure you've considered this, but the boiling temperature of any liquid varies with altitude and an over vigorous boil could be a tad painful. (Worse it could be expensive to you if you plan to sell them). :D

If you're using a (temperature tolerant) IC as a controller, the many standard circuit designs in this area might dictate a sensible range for the thermostat. Unless you were thinking of getting ambitious with the design and cosdiering the design parameters for temperature contolled mashing a well!

I boil at 50 degrees, that way I can boil 2 brews for the price of one! You'd be amazed at how much I've cut my energy costs!
