Re: iodine
If it is iodine (tincture) it can't be used for sanitation . . . if it is iodophor then it can
Re: iodine
Here you go.
I just made up some Videne for the first time, using acidified tap water as per DaaB's recipe above, but I was also trying-out my pH meter ditto. Brupaks Iodophor is supposed to be acidified already, if that's what you got from the HBS.
I put 1ml from a syringe into 500ml of water, which with Videne (1% free iodine) should give about 20 parts per million as a no-rinse solution. It's gone into a 50p garden sprayer from Wilco's.

Re: iodine
I think mine is the brupaks iodophor. not quite sure where I bought it but think it was from 'the home brew shop'. All I can remember is the it came in see through bag with the instrictions on a piece of paper, not stuck on the bottle. hence why I have lost the instructions!!!
Anyways, made it
up as per daabs recipe, 0.6ml per litre and I must say the resulting product looks very weak. I can only just see a taint of the iodophor in it when I pour some into a glass.
have I done this right?? dont want to waste a brew

Et voila:

The Kodak scales might help, though there's some flare from the camera flash

Re: iodine - PLEASE HELP
Standard teaspoon is 5 ml, so half = 2.5ml?
Re: iodine - PLEASE HELP
so should I go for that then as a non rinse sanatiser!!
just dont under stand why the instructions say 2.5ml per litre and daab say 0.6ml per litre
its defo the brupaks iodophor that im using

Re: iodine - PLEASE HELP
2.5 millilitres is the official proper, full-strength concentration (should be rinsed).beesley121 wrote:so should I go for that then as a non rinse sanatiser!!

0.6ml in the unofficial, no-rinse concentration.
I have not done the sums myself, but I assume that Daabs figures were for Brupaks iodophor. Iodophors vary in strength, and Brupaks is stronger than most, I think.
